چکیده

Ferritin was isolated from six Morris hepatomas with growth rates ranging from 3 to 12 days doubling time and also from regenerating rat liver. The ferritins from all six tumors differed electrophoretically from normal rat liver ferritin. Five of them migrated identically, and antigenic studies on four confirmed the change in protein structure. In response to iron treatment of the host, more ferritin protein and iron accumulated in all the tumors. However, by com parison with normal liver, the ratio of iron to protein in hepatoma ferritin and the capacity for iron uptake by the tumors were both low. With increasing rate of growth, the hepatomas showed progressively less capacity for iron uptake, less ferritin iron per g tumor, and especially a diminishing iron/protein ratio of tumor ferritin. Regenerating liver also showed a lower ferritin iron content but had an increased capacity for uptake of 59Fe, and its ferritin was

Association between serum ferritin level, cardiac and hepatic T2-star MRI in patients with major β-thalassemia

Background Frequent blood transfusion is often associated with iron overload. Proper use of iron chelators to treat iron overload requires an accurate measurement of iron levels. Magnetic resonance T2-star (T2* MRI) can measure iron level in the heart and liver. Our goal was to see whether an association exists between serum ferritin level and T2* MRI in patients with major beta thalassemia. ...

Cardiac and Hepatic T2*-Weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Abstract Background Iron overload is the main transfusion related side effects in patients with transfusion dependent hemoglobinopathies. Severe iron deposition in tissues leads to organ dysfunction. Many organs can be affected such as heart, liver, and endocrine organs. Cardiac failure and liver fibrosis are the consequent of Iron overload in transfusion dependent hemoglobinopathy. Magne...

Zataria multiflora Essential oil Prevent Iron Oxide Nanoparticles-induced Liver Toxicity in Rat Model

Over loading of iron oxide nanoparticles can causes the liver injury through overproduction of free radicals. Zataria multiflora Boiss. (Lamiaceae) has been used for many years in folk medicine due to its antioxidant and antibacterial activities. This study evaluates -for the first time- the effect of Z. multiflora essential oil (EO) against iron oxide nanoparticles hepatotoxicity in rat model....

Efficacy of Chicory in Decreasing Serum Ferritin and Liver Enzymes in Major Beta Thalassemia Patients

Abstract Objective Thalassemia major is a severe transfusion-dependent anemia that needs iron chalation therapy to remove iron overload. The objectives of the present study were to assess the iron overload liver response to inulin of chicory supplementation by evaluating the serum ferritin and liver enzymes. Methods Among 70 beta thalassemia patients, 50 were selected for chelating therapy ...

Evaluation of Liver Toxicity of 2-Methyl-3-Hydroxypyridin-4-one in Iron Overloaded Rats

Hydroxypyridinone iron chelators are currently the main candidates for development of orally active iron chelating alternatives to desferrioxamine (DFO). In the present study, the relative efficacy and liver toxicity of a bidentate chelator, 2-methyl-3-hydroxypyridin-4-one (MHPO), was studied in iron overloaded rats and compared with those of DFO. For iron overloading, rats received i.p. ...
